EITI Strategy Working Group

At its meeting in Amsterdam 9 June 2011 the international EITI Board agreed that there was a need to carefully consider the EITI’s strategic options and decided to establish a Strategy Working Group (SWG). The objective of the SWG is to facilitate this process, and to present options and recommendations to the Board of EITI regarding the strategic direction of the EITI for the next 3-5 years. This work will include reviewing:

  • the EITI Principles, EITI Criteria and scope of the EITI;
  • the system for assessment (e.g. compliance and/or sliding scale);
  • communication and use of EITI reports;
  • linkages with other governance reform programmes;
  • technical assistance provision, governance and organisation;
  • the findings from the evaluation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative; and
  • proposals and feedback from partners and stakeholders and from a public consultation on EITI strategy.

The SWG consists of members from all stakeholder groups, including members of the EITI Board and external experts.

Public consultation

The EITI invites you to a public consultation on the EITI's strategic direction. Submissions should be sent by email to strategy [at] eiti [dot] org. All comments and feedback will be considered when the SWG prepares its options and recommendations to the EITI Board. As a first step, the SWG tasked the Secretariat to compile a paper identifying various strategic options ahead of the Board’s meeting in Jakarta 25 October. The paper is available here »

Proposals submitted to the SWG are posted on this page.
