Afghanistan EITI (AEITI) conducted a three-day capacity-building workshop for the members of the Afghanistan multi-stakeholder group from 28-30 March 2011 in Kabul. The aim of the workshop was to train stakeholders in the analysis of EITI reconciliation reports, communication and EITI Validation.
On the first day, Bashir Khan, AEITI National Coordinator, provided an update on the status of EITI implementation in Afghanistan, highlighting progress on the preparation of reporting templates for Afghanistan’s first EITI Report.
Representatives from other EITI implementing countries in the region were invited to the workshop to share their experiences from EITI implementation and validation. Karybek Ibraev, Head of the EITI Secretariat in the Kyrgyz Republic, spoke about the reconciliation process and EITI reporting in the Kyrgyz Republic. Shar Tsolmon, EITI National Coordinator in Mongolia, gave a presentation about Mongolia’s communication and public outreach efforts.
The workshop was organised in collaboration with the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance in Afghanistan. The EITI Secretariat in Afghanistan has prepared a brief report from the workshop.
Afghanistan was admitted as an EITI Candidate country on 10 February 2010 and has until 9 February 2012 to complete EITI Validation.
