EITI training seminar for Anglophone African countries

As part of their series of training seminars on the new EITI Rules, the EITI International Secretariat and the German development agency, GIZ, are hosting a seminar for Anglophone African countries. Focused specifically at national secretariats and civil society, the seminar will welcome representatives from Ghana, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Zambia. All seven countries have undertaken validation, and in various stages of producing new reports. The purpose of the seminar is to explain the new EITI Rules that were agreed by the EITI Board in February 2011, and how these will affect their implementation process, particularly in relation to reporting requirements, auditing of EITI data, participation of civil society and candidacy period, among others. In addition, the seminar will provide an opportunity to share the growing body of experience and best practices, look back at progress made so far, and discuss the future of EITI.

The event forms part of a multi-year EITI training programme funded by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented jointly by GIZ (German International Cooperation) and the EITI International Secretariat to consolidate the implementation of the EITI through skills and knowledge building and peer learning. It is expected that the training models will be used as a basis for the organisation and implementation of national and local capacity-building workshops that will complement dissemination and training activities by the International Secretariat.
