The EITI is pleased to welcome KOGAS as the latest EITI Supporting Company.KOGAS was incorporated by Korean government in 1983 and has become the largest LNG importer in the world. The company has exploration or production projects in five countries that are currently implementing the EITI standard: Iraq, Yemen, Timor-Leste, Indonesia and Mozambique.

The EITI International Secretariat (EITI-IS), based in Oslo, Norway, is now recruiting a Communications Officer. Communications is a key part of the activities of the EITI-IS. It communicates with a broad range of stakeholders including governments, oil/gas/mining companies, civil society organisations, citizens and media in the 35 countries that are currently implementing the EITI standard.

Iraq has disclosed detailed information about
the US$ 41 billion in revenue it received from oil and gas exports in 2009.
Iraq’s disclosure of the figures follows the country’s commitment to the EITI standard, the global standard for transparency
of resource revenues.

Clare Short called on Libyan Prime Minister Abderrahim Al-Kib to commit Libya to implement the
EITI standard.
In a letter
on Tuesday she wrote that “a decision by your government to implement the
EITI would create a level playing field for the oil industry in Libya”.

Clare Short, Chair of the EITI, gave on 8 December the Annual Anti-Corruption Lecture at Transparency International UK.
In her lecture, Ms Short briefly reviews the evolution of efforts to curb corruption, concluding that some strides have been made since corruption started to be taken seriously in the last 10-15 years, exemplified by the recent growth of countries following the EITI standard, stating that “there is no doubt that the EITI has got off to a good start”.

On 28 November, Niger became an oil producer with the opening of a refinery in Zinder. The refinery has the capacity to pump 20,000 barrels a day and will produce liquefied petroleum gas, petrol and gas-oil.
