The biannual EITI global conference is thehighest governing body of the EITI and the premier event in the EITI calendar. During the Global Conference, a smaller EITI Members' Meeting with the three constituency groups – implementing and supporting countries, companies (including institutional investors) and civil society organisations - takes place. The main task of the EITI Members' Meeting is to appoint an EITI Board for the next two years.
To date, there have been four EITI Global Conferences:
- EITI Lancaster House Conference, June 2003
- EITI London Conference, March 2005
- EITI Oslo Conference, October 2006
- EITI Doha Conference, February 2009

The12 EITI Principles were agreed at the Conference. 140 representatives from governments, companies, civil society and international organizations participated.
In 2005, the London Conference developed and adopted the EITI Criteria and methodology. The source book, providing guidance on how the EITI should be implemented, was launched. 300 people attended the conference.
The 3rd EITI Global Conference in Oslo in 2006 marked the transition from EITI design to EITI implementation. The EITI validation indicators, the EITI International Board and the EITI International Secretariat were established. About 400 people participated at the Conference and the International Advisory Group Report made recommendations for the future work of the EITI.
At the Doha Conference in 2009, the EITI was consolidated as a global standard establishing resource revenue transparency in 26 countries. The Conference was a great success with more than 500 government, industry and institutional leaders from across 80 countries attending the event, including Heads of State.
