Guinea back on track with EITI implementation

At its meeting in Paris on 1 March 2011, the EITI International Board agreed to lift the suspension of Guinea’s EITI Candidate status, following a request made by the Guinean government. Guinea has until 29 February 2012 to complete EITI Validation. The Board had approved Guinea's request for suspending its EITI Candidate status on 19 December 2009, when the political and security situation in the country had made EITI implementation impossible.

Togo accepted as ‘EITI Candidate’

Togo has been admitted as a Candidate country within the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), the global standard for improved transparency in the oil, gas and mining sector. The EITI Board approved Togo candidacy application at a meeting on 19 October in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Cameroon, Gabon, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria designated as EITI Candidate countries that are “close to compliance”

In recognition of their progress in implementing the EITI, the EITI Board has decided that Cameroon, Gabon, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria are Candidate countries that are “close to compliance”. This was announced following the meeting of the EITI Board in Dar-es-Salaam 19-20 October.

Indonesia accepted as EITI Candidate country

DAR-ES-SALAAM, 19 OCTOBER 2010.  Indonesia has been admitted as a Candidate country within the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), the global standard for improved transparency in the oil, gas and mining sector. The EITI Board approved Indonesia’s candidacy application at a meeting today in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Chad commits to transparency as it becomes EITI Candidate

Kyrgyzstan: Second EITI Report launched at regional EITI conference

The Kyrgyz EITI Secretariat hosted an international conference on “Experience of Implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative” on 14-15 September at Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan.  The conference included Kyrgyz government representatives, delegations from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Tajikistan, civil society organizations, mining companies and development institutions. Kyrgyzstan started its EITI process in 2004.

Indonesia to implement the EITI

The Government of Indonesia has announced its intention to work towards EITI compliance and to make an application to become an EITI candidate.

Norway accepted as an EITI Candidate Country

The 11 February Norway was accepted as an EITI Candidate, and became the 25th EITI implementing country. Norway, the world's third largest oil exporter, is the first OECD country to implement the EITI. When applying for candidate status Terje Riis-Johansen, Norwegian Minister of Oil and Energy, said "By now moving from supporting the EITI to also implementing it, we hope to contribute towards the EITI becoming the globally recognised transparency standard for the extractive industry."
