Ms Sonia LE BRIS
Sonia is a lawyer by training, who has been in the Federal Government for the last 17 years, with different executive positions at Health Canada, Industry Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and Citizenship and Immigration.
All along her career within the federal government she has been working on complex and horizontal files such as genomics, pandemic preparedness, biotechnology regulations, benefit sharing, migration travel health, economic development, disruptive technologies. She also had the opportunity to lead policy development and implementation with provinces and territories, as well as with a number of international organizations.
Prior to joining the government, she was Director of Medical and Life Sciences for Deloitte & Touche in New York and Brussels, where she led a team of international consultants working with various levels of government, international organizations, businesses and non-governmental organizations throughout the world, to develop innovative policies and legal frameworks in the areas of biotechnology, life sciences, as well as social responsibility and sustainable development. Prior to joining Deloitte, she was adjunct professor for 8 years at the University of Montréal at the Centre de Recherche en droit public, doing policy research and teaching on ethics and law in various emerging areas.
Sonia has a master’s degree and a Diplome d’études approfondies from the Université de Rennes (France) both in private law and a master from the University of Montreal in comparative law. Last June, she completed the Certificate in public sector leadership and governance, at the University of Ottawa.
On a personal front, she is from France and immigrated to Canada to study and never left. She is the mother of a wonderful 10 year old son and in her spare time enjoys swimming, travelling, being outdoors, reading, cooking and spending time with her friends and family.
