The Communities and Small-Scale Mining (CASM) Initiative has published this report as a follow up to their April 2009 report “Trading Conflict for Development”.

It offers an analysis of the regional trade in minerals from Eastern DRC and explores the link between trade and conflict. The authors argue that a change in the current trading regime is necessary to prevent conflict over mineral resources, but needs to be complimented by additional macro level reforms to create economic opportunities outside the mining sector.
