Zambia Validation 2019

In October 2017, the EITI Board agreed that Zambia had made meaningful progress in implementing the 2016 EITI Standard.. See Board decision 2017-54/BM-38/BP38-6-D.

In this second Validation, the EITI International Secretariat has assessed the progress made in addressing the four corrective actions established by the EITI Board following the first Validation. See more under background below. 

Timeline of Validation and related materials

  • 25 April 2019: Second Validation commenced.
  • 29 April to 3 May 2019: International Secretariat stakeholder consultations mission to Zambia.
  • 17 July 2019: International Secretariat sends the draft assessment was sent to the Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) [English]

MSG Comments & Validation Committee Review

  • 19 August  2019 - The MSG provided comments [English]. 
  • 28 August 2019 - The International Secretariat finalised the assessment for review by the Validation Committee [English]. 
  • 17 October 2019: The Validation Committee reviewed VC Paper 11-3 on the second Validation of Zambia [English], [French].
  • 7 November 2019: The Validation Committee reviewed VC Paper 12-3 on the second Validation of Zambia [English], [French].
  • 25 November 2019: The Validation Committee sent a recommendation to the Board (for decision): Second Validation of Zambia, Board Circular 282.

Background

The first Validation of commenced on 1 January 2017. On 25 October 2017, the EITI Board agreed that Zambia had made meaningful progress in implementing the 2016 EITI Standard (Board decision 2017-54/BM-38/BP38-6-D). The Board established 4 corrective actions related to:

  1. License allocation (Requirement 2.2)
  2. Contract disclosure (Requirement 2.4)
  3. Production data (Requirement 3.2)
  4. Follow-up on EITI recommendations (Requirement 7.3).
