The renewable energy sector has a critical role in helping countries reduce energy poverty and adopt pathways to a low-carbon future. However, weak governance poses a threat to the sector’s growth, potentially deterring investment and increasing business costs due to perceived violations of stakeholder rights.
Addressing this requires reinforcing transparency and accountability, which serve as the foundation for fairer and more competitive markets and building stakeholder trust.
At this EITI side event co-hosted with the Government of Mauritania, speakers launched a critical call to action for transparency and accountability in the renewable energy sector and highlight practical steps governments, companies and civil society are taking to support the sustainable growth of the renewable energy sector.
