Statement of support
Engagement with the EITI
Vale supports the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) through its membership in the International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM). In addition to its contribution through the ICMM, Vale provides funding to the international management of the EITI since 2014.
Vale is part of the multi-stakeholder groups (MSGs) in Mozambique, Peru and Indonesia. In Indonesia, the company participates through its membership to the Indonesian Mining Association. In other countries, subsidiary companies have representatives in local multi-stakeholder groups. Vale complies with national EITI reporting requests in countries where it has a presence.
As a leading company in the extractive industry, Vale believes it is essential to demonstrate the company’s contribution to governments and local economies as part of its good corporate citizenship.
Strengthening transparency
As part of Vale's Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) agenda, in 2019 the company committed to providing additional information about the taxes it pays in the countries where it operates and in all of its businesses segments.
In the last quarter of 2020, Vale announced the publication of the first edition of its Tax Transparency Report 2019. The tax transparency report intends to add details and context to an ongoing dialogue with investors, governments, communities and other stakeholders. This is one of several actions Vale is taking to further engage in an open and transparent dialogue with society.
