L'honorable Miguel Diaz

Vice Minister of Mines, Ministry of Energy and Mines, Dominican Republic

Miguel Diaz has over 30 years of experience assisting the mining industry to solve environmental problems. He is an expert in Acid Mine Drainage (ARD), waste characterization (solid and liquid), socio-environmental impact assessment with IFC/Equator Principles standards, closure planning and due diligence of mergers and acquisitions. He also has extensive experience in evaluating the implications of gold processing routes in terms of solid, liquid and gaseous effluents.

In addition, he has been manager of environmental and research projects, involving a variety of metals and multidisciplinary teams, with different cultures and countries. He has worked in twenty different countries in Europe, Africa and Latin America.

He was Technical Director, leader of the environmental team at Amec Foster Wheeler (now Wood PLC) based in Ashford, Kent, United Kingdom, until October 2015. Since his return to Santo Domingo in November 2015, he has worked in the role of Director of Permits and Compliance for the environmental remediation project – Las Lagunas Tailings Dam. He was also President of the Dominican Geological Society (SODOGEO) from April 2016 to August 2020. As of August 2020 he has held the position of Vice Minister of Mines, of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
