EITI National Coordinators met in Brussels to review progress

EITI National Coordinators met in Brussels to review progress

Hosted by the European Commission, the EITI National Coordinators from the 33 EITI implementing countries met in Brussels 8-9 November. The national coordinators are tasked with the day-to-day management of the EITI process in their countries and liaise regularly with the International Secretariat.

At the meeting, the National Coordinators exchanged experiences from implementation in their countries, including on progress with EITI Validation. Lessons were also shared on how the information in EITI reports is used and on how to conduct nationwide communications campaigns.

The 5th EITI Global Conference in Paris on 2-3 March 2011 will bring together the voices and stories of the EITI from the implementing countries. In view of that, preparations for the Conference were also discussed.

In addition to National Coordinators from the EITI Compliant and Candidate countries, representatives from Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Guatemala participated. These countries are currently exploring EITI implementation in their countries.

Following the meeting of the National Coordinators, the first ever meeting between the European Commission and the EITI National Coordinators took place. The European Commission has been supporting the EITI many years, and is a contributor to the EITI Multi-donor Trust Fund managed by the World Bank.
