ConocoPhillips have informed the EITI International Secretariat that they will withdraw from the EITI as an EITI supporting company.
The company confirmed to the International Secretariat in written communications and in a call in mid-July that this decision is a result of changes in the geographical profile of their operations, which now have minimal overlap with EITI implementing countries, limited to Norway and the UK.
Mark Robinson, Executive Director of the EITI said: “We regret this decision, recognising the leadership role that EITI supporting companies play in promoting high standards of transparency and accountability in their operations, including through committing to the Expectations for EITI supporting companies.”
We understand that ConocoPhillips will keep their decision under review. Should the company decide to re-apply to be an EITI supporting company, their performance against the Expectations for EITI supporting companies will be re-assessed at that time.
