EITI week in Kiev

EITI week in Kiev

“We need to be intelligent and fair in testing the progress countries are making. The EITI’s future success could lie in getting this balance right.” Clare Short reflecting in a recent news item on the proposed refinements to the Standard. The EITI International Board meeting in Kiev on 9 and 10 December will discuss, amongst other issues, changes to EITI quality assurance system.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Board will discuss a number of thematic issues such as beneficial ownership reporting and mainstreaming transparency, as well as monitoring progress in EITI implementing and outreach countries, and touching on various governance and housekeeping issues in the run up to the next Global Conference, due to take place in Lima, Peru, in the first quarter of 2016.

On the eve of the Board meeting, EITI secretariat staff attended the launch of the first Ukraine EITI report in Kiev. The report was launched at the Sustainable Resource Management Forum with the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchysyn and representatives from companies and civil society in attendance.
