Hindustan Zinc joins EITI as a supporting company
India’s largest zinc producer joins a global network of over 60 companies championing transparency in the extractive industries.
The EITI recently welcomed Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) – India’s largest and only integrated producer of zinc, lead and silver – as its newest supporting company.
Founded in 1966 and headquartered in Udaipur, India, Hindustan Zinc is the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and also ranks among the top five silver producers globally. The company is separately listed from Vedanta, which remains its main shareholder along with the Indian government.
In its statement of support for the EITI, the company highlighted the importance of transparency in fostering trust among stakeholders. “By adhering to the EITI Standard, we ensure the clarity and accessibility of our financial contributions. This fosters our commitment to transparency, ethical practices and sustainable development,” it said.
The company adheres to regulations set by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and discloses its financial and operational data in line with these requirements. It also publishes payment and ownership details and other relevant information through tax transparency reports, sustainability reports and annual reports.
By joining the EITI, Hindustan Zinc seeks to advance its transparency agenda and align with the Expectations for EITI supporting companies, which promote corporate accountability in line with the EITI Standard.
“We are pleased to welcome Hindustan Zinc as an EITI supporting company,” said Mark Robinson, EITI Executive Director. “By strengthening its transparency commitments, HZL joins a growing movement of companies dedicated to responsible business practices and improved governance in the mining sector.”
