International conference on Transparency in the Extractive Sector

[img_assist|nid=257|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=150|height=63]At the 2007 G8 Summit in Heiligendamm the Heads of State and Government welcomed the proposal of the German government to host an international conference on Transparency in the Extractive Sector. The German Federal Government will hold this conference in Berlin on 14 December 2007.

The conference aims to provide an international high-level forum to underline the importance of transparency in the extractive sector (i.e. oil, gas and mining industry and related financial investment and rating companies). The event provides an opportunity to advance the dialogue on transparency and strengthen cooperation between resource-rich, emerging and industrialised countries. The conference will reflect on the current state of discussion, and provide a preview of forthcoming tasks and steps to be taken in the relevant international fora.
