Ken Salazar, US Secretary of Interior, and Ola Borten Moe, Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, met on Tuesday to discuss cooperation in the energy sector between Norway and the USA.
Last month the White House announced that Ken Salazar had been appointed to lead on US implementation of the EITI standard. Norway was the first OECD country to become EITI Compliant on 1 March this year.
At their meeting, Salazar and Borten Moe signed a joint statement. One of four priorities agreed in the statement was that the two countries "should support the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative by sharing best practices."
Commenting on the statement, Jonas Moberg, Head of the EITI International Secretariat said: “As the EITI becomes a global standard, it is excellent to see how also OECD countries like Norway and the US with their sophisticated governance structures are sharing good practices in how to implement the EITI and ensure transparent management of their natural resources.”
