Marianne Stigset

Former Communications Director

Marianne led the development and implementation of strategic communications plans to raise public awareness of the EITI and natural resource governance from August 2018-March 2019. Her role included communicating the impact of the EITI’s country work and promotes the use of the organisation’s research, knowledge and data through online engagement, media relations, events and stakeholder outreach. She was also member of the Secretariat’s senior management team.

Marianne has over 18 years of experience in media, communications and investor relations from the U.S., Middle East and Europe. She came to the EITI from the position of Director of Global Engagement and Communications at EAT, an NGO working on sustainable food systems. Prior to this she worked as Director of Investor Relations at Aker ASA, an industrial investment company specialised in E&P and oilfield services. Her earlier professional experience includes working at the World Bank on social protection, public sector reform and communications, and close to a decade in journalism, lastly as bureau chief for Bloomberg News in Oslo. Her reporting focused on energy and the commodities markets.

Marianne holds a B.A. in European Studies from the London School of Economics, a diploma in International Relations from Sciences Po Paris and a M.A. in International Relations and Economics from the Johns Hopkins University – Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where she was a Fulbright Scholar. In her spare time, Marianne loves cross-country skiing, hiking, yoga and immersing herself in a good read.
