Aida Diop Ndiaye

The only woman in her graduating univertity class with a master degree in Geology, Aida had specializing in governance and gender. She is a founding member of Women in Mining Senegal and African Women in Mining and was selected in 2020 as one of the “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” (WIM100).

Under her leadership, WIM Senegal has created three (4) networks at national and sub national level, bringing together more than 50,000 women and young people. She is also a coach and leads a mentoring program for more than 1,000 young beneficiaries.

Senior Program Officer of Natural Resource Governance Institute, In her role Aida DIOP help drive forward NRGI’s governance reform agenda in Senegal, including support to EITI and civil society, advocacy on transparency and accountability in the oil and mining sectors, technical assistance and analysis of the nascent hydrocarbons sector, and spurring vigorous public debate on the energy transition and its implications for Senegal’s extractive industries and broader economy. 

She is also is the Acting Chief Of Party (COP) of the USAID TRACES funded program (USD 10,000,000 million): Extractive Sector Transparency and Accountability Project which aims to increase transparency and accountability mechanisms in the mining, oil and gas sectors for better management and distribution of revenues to benefit all Senegalese citizens.

Over the past thirteen years, she has worked on various strategic portfolios connected to the management and governance of extractive industries and has been involved in large national and African mining public policies reforms. She has conducted projects in collaboration with  Stakeholders : Governement, Private sector, Civil Society, institutions including the European Union, AWIMA (Africa MaVal Project linked critical minieral and energy transition), African Union, ECOWAS, WAEMU, OSIWA, UN WOMEN, UNDP, CECI CANADA, FAO, OSIWA, USAID, British Embassy, Canadian Embassy and French Embassy. She knows NRGI’s mission well, being an alumna of the Francophone Africa Hub a researcher for the 2021 Senegal Resource Governance Index « RGI ».
