Matthew provides strategic direction and oversight of implementation in Eastern and Southern African EITI countries and supports the Policy Group with work on improving transparency of state-owned enterprises.
Prior to joining the EITI, Matthew worked as an advisor at the Tony Blair Institute (formerly the Africa Governance Initiative, AGI), where he provided technical assistance to governments across Africa on energy, private sector development and public sector delivery and reform. Earlier professional experience includes working in the artisanal and small-scale mining sectors of Ghana and Madagascar, and consulting on natural resource disputes in northern and western Canada.
Matthew holds an MSc. in Emerging Economies and International Development from King’s College London and a B.A. International Relations from the University of British Columbia. Apart from natural resources governance more broadly, his professional interests are political settlements and energy transitions in emerging markets. In his spare time, Matt enjoys running, surfing and navigating his canal boat through London’s many waterways.
