Peer learning: How civil society is making use of the data from extractive companies

The EITI International Secretariat invited CSO constituency members and National Secretariats from Armenia, Mongolia, Philippines, and Timor Leste to participate in a workshop to share lessons about their experience in using data from the oil, gas and mining contracts as part of civil society efforts to improve extractive sector governance in their respective countries.

These four countries were selected because their governments have taken notable initiatives to disclose extractive contracts, licenses and agreements through website that are accessible to the public.

The peer learning session aimed to build on these current disclosures by identifying ways to see concrete gains from such disclosures and further improve disclosure practices.

The workshop provided a platform for civil society organisations (CSOs) in these countries to share examples on how they have used contracts data, exchange ideas on how CSOs can maximise their use of these data and discuss the kinds of technical support that are needed to implement these.
