SOE governance and responsible commodity trading in Latin America and the Caribbean
In-person capacity building session
EITI, in collaboration with the SECO and Colombia's Ministry of Mines and Energy, will host a regional workshop in Bogotá, Colombia, on 2-3 July.
Dates: 2 -3 July 2024
Location: Best Western Plus 93 Park Hotel, Bogotá, Colombia
Registration: By invitation only
Latin American and Caribbean countries, including Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Peru, are notably among the top producers of oil, gas and minerals. The region holds significant reserves of transition minerals such as lithium and copper, essential for the energy transition. State-owned enterprises (SOEs) play a crucial role in these industries, contributing significantly to national economies. However, SOEs face challenges in transparency and governance, particularly in commodity trading.
The EITI, in collaboration with the State Secretariat of Economic Affairs of Switzerland (SECO) and Colombia's Ministry of Mines and Energy, will host a two-day in-person regional peer exchange in Bogota, Colombia, to strengthen understanding and analysis of commodity trading practices and raise awareness of how EITI implementation can improve governance in SOEs.
The workshop will facilitate the sharing of best practices in data disclosure by SOEs involved in EITI implementation across the region and promote open dialogue among civil society actors, members of EITI multi-stakeholder groups and government entities from the Latin America and Caribbean region.
