South32 is a base metal and coal mining company based in Perth, Western Australia. It was spun out of BHP Billiton on 25 May 2015. The company is a major producer of commodity metals and coal that include aluminium, manganese, silver, zinc, lead, nickel, coking coal and thermal coal.
Engagement with the EITI
South32 is committed to publically disclosing our royalty and taxation payments to national governments. It will support host countries to progress the initiative (we also operate in Australia, Brazil and South Africa).
South32 is a new company and about have produced our first annual report. In this they have disclosed tax and other royalty payments made and to whom. It is our intention to continue with this level of transparency.
Financial contribution to international management of the EITI
South32 is a member of ICMM. ICMM makes a contribution to the international EITI on behalf of all of its members.
Practicing good governance and transparency: South32 supports the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI), a global Standard to promote open and accountable management of natural resources. As part of this initiative we disclose the taxes and other payments we make to governments in the countries where we operate. This ensures communities are aware of our financial contribution to their government.
