Sherritt International Corporation

About Sherritt International

Sherritt International Corporation is Canadian company specialising in the mining and refining of nickel from lateritic ores with operations in Canada, Cuba and Madagascar.

Engagement with the EITI

Sherritt, through its Ambatovy nickel operation, has been actively involved in Madagascar’s EITI work since 2008. We have contributed to EITI reconciliation reports since the reporting process was launched in 2010. We have a representative that currently sits on Madagascar’s EITI National Council, representing the interests of all extractive companies in the country. Working with others involved in EITI, we have made many public presentations to inform external stakeholders of EITI and Madagascar’s candidacy. In addition, there is a statement of support for EITI implementation in Madagascar on the Ambatovy website. We will continue to focus considerable effort on supporting EITI implementation in Madagascar and we will seek out and participate in appropriate opportunities to promote EITI more broadly.

Financial contribution to the international management of the EITI

Sherritt International contributed US $10,000 in 2014.*

* The amounts said to be contributed to EITI are figures from the companies. For the audited EITI revenue figures, please consult the EITI financial accounts for that year.
