The United Kingdom
The UK government continues to consider EITI an important initiative and remains committed to continuing that support through our annual funding payment and active engagement, including sponsoring the Peer Learning Day at the 2023 Global Conference in Dakar. EITI’s work aligns with UK policy priorities by strengthening governance, supporting sustainable development, and creating stable investment climates that benefit UK companies operating overseas.
Engagement with the EITI
Previously as the Department for International Development (DFID), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) provides financial support to the EITI International Secretariat and the Extractives Global Programmatic Support (EGPS) Multi-Donor Trust Fund, as well as broader support through global initiatives and country-level programmes.

Support for EITI implementing countries
FCDO has previously funded EITI to implement beneficial ownership and commodity trading transparency in Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, and Tanzania so that these countries may benefit from their natural resources in an accountable and transparent way.
The FCDO funds the UK’s international subscription to EITI (£300k pa). This subscription helps to fund EITI’s work in other nations on a range of UK Government priorities including anti-corruption, corporate transparency and tackling economic crime, energy transition and security, tackling climate change and the drive towards net zero.
