Noble Energy becomes newest EITI Supporting Company

The Houston-based US company, Noble Energy, became an official EITI Supporting Company in January 2010. It is the 46th company to become an EITI supporter at the international level. Noble Energy emphasises the importance of financial transparency in battling corruption in the extractives sector and in generating sustainable growth for host countries as part of its broader aims of good corporate citizenship.

Noble Energy is a leading US independent oil and gas company engaged in worldwide production and exploration of oil an natural gas. The company has onshore operations in the US as well as deep-water operations in the Gulf of Mexico. It has exploration and production activities in the EITI implementing countries Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, as well as offshore operations in Ecuador, China and Israel. On joining the EITI, the company issued a statement on their website.

EITI Chairman Peter Eigen welcomed Noble Energy into the EITI family saying, "We look forward to cooperating with Noble Energy to improve revenue transparency in the extractives sector, especially in West Africa. While the EITI is implemented by governments, the support from operating companies is critical to the success of the EITI."
