BHP has a long-standing commitment to transparency as a means to enhance understanding, build trust and drive accountability. The company has been disclosing details of its tax and royalty payments for many years and has continually updated and expanded its disclosures. 

The 2020 BHP Economic Contribution Report includes disclosure of all BHP payments of taxes and royalties to host governments on a country-by-country and project-by-project basis, together with BHP disclosure of companies in ‘low-tax’ jurisdictions. This report complies with the European Union Transparency Directive and the Australian Voluntary Tax Transparency Code.

BHP is proud to have received recognition for its corporate transparency from the Building Public Trust in Corporate Reporting Awards 2016. The company also supports measures such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting action plan (OECD BEPS), which helps curb aggressive tax planning.
