Malawi's third EITI Report covers oil, gas and mining sectors as well as the forestry sector for the period from 1 July 2016 and 30 June 2017. It was published in November 2019.

The EITI Board agreed the EITI Policy on voicing concerns at its meeting in Addis Ababa on 17 October 2019 (Board paper 45-6-A).

The procedures for voicing concerns to the EITI are open to all stakeholders and accessible. Stakeholders with a concern should first raise it to the attention of the immediate EITI body (national multi-stakeholder group, EITI constituency, etc.). The EITI and its partners agree that there are opportunities to reach out to other resource-rich countries that could benefit from EITI implementation and could contribute to improved global governance of natural resources and their contribution to development goals. This document provides a strategy for how the EITI, together with supporting governments, companies and organisations, commits to work towards wider implementation of the EITI.
The Validation procedure relates to how Validation is carried out.
These procedures came into force on 31 December 2016 and apply to all Validations commencing on 1 January 2017 and thereafter. The procedures were updated in October 2019.

This discussion paper, authored by Alexandra Gillies, was commissioned to inform ongoing debate about the role that the EITI plays in addressing corruption.
Corruption remains a significant and harmful problem in the extractives sector. By raising the bar on transparency, the EITI has undoubtedly played a substantive role in addressing corruption, but the nature of this role has not always been well understood or articulated.
This document proposes the objectives of the strategy, as well as the criteria and strategic approaches that the EITI should use to guide its outreach priorities. In light of these, it proposes outreach priorities for the EITI – including a ramping up of our engagement with state-owned enterprises, financial institutions and southern-based multi-national corporations – and the corresponding resource implications. Finally, it includes a brief background section for the benefit of new Board members, outlining the EITI’s outreach efforts to date and other considerations.
