Board decision

The Board agreed to undertake a targeted assessment of Requirement 1 in accordance with Article 8.a of Section 4 of the 2019 EITI Standard, commencing in August 2023. The Honduras EITI MSG’s request for an extension to its Validation was not granted, but Validation would be rescheduled to 2024 following the completion of the targeted assessment. The targeted assessment will be conducted in close collaboration with the EITI Board’s Validation Committee.

Background

On 1 May 2023, the MSG submitted a request for a 15-month extension to the next Validation of Honduras, scheduled to commence on 1 July 2023. The Secretariat’s assessment of the request did not identify exceptional circumstances supporting the request, and thus the Validation Committee agreed to recommend to the Board that Honduras’ request for an extension to its next Validation not be granted. However, given apparent weaknesses in the multi-stakeholder oversight of the EITI process, the Validation Committee recommended to the Board that it undertake a targeted assessment of Requirement 1, starting in August 2023. A new date for the commencement of Validation in 2024 will be set following the targeted assessment of Requirement 1.
