Since 2005, the government of Peru has been part of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), showing its commitment to transparency and sustainability in the extractive sector. In 2012, Peru became the first EITI “compliant country” in Latin America, setting itself up as a leader in the promotion of transparency in extractive industries in the region.

In 2013, Peru, Canada and their partners have launched a new partnership to promote transparency in the extractive sector, with the objective of (a) enhancing the capacity of regional and municipal governments to better manage their budgets and expenditures using revenues from extractive industries and (b) fostering a constructive dialogue between public, private and civil society sectors to build a more responsible and sustainable mining industry in Peru.

In this panel, the presenters will share good practices and lessons learned from applying transparency international standards at national and regional levels.
