Public panel: A new global norm of beneficial ownership transparency

The forum hosted a panel discussion accessible virtually to a broader group of stakeholders as well as the media, which highlighted the importance of and urgency for BOT disclosures and reforms, both from government and private sector perspectives. Panellists considered opportunities for supporting and expanding the global drive to implement beneficial ownership transparency reforms, including the commitments they can make to support beneficial ownership transparency.

The event also saw the launch of Opening Extractives, a global five-year programme delivered by the EITI and Open Ownership and supported by the BHP Foundation, which aims to end the use of anonymous companies linked to corruption and mismanagement in the extractive sector. The programme will partner with approximately 12 countries, including Argentina, Ghana, Indonesia, Liberia, Mexico, Mongolia, Nigeria, Philippines and Zambia to support beneficial ownership reform.
