Advancing transparency and accountability in the renewable energy sector

EITI, UNDP and UNFCCC Off Just Transition Pavilion, Blue Zone This event, in partnership with UNDP and UNFCCC, will address corruption and integrity risks in the renewable energy sector. Speakers will issue a call to action for transparency and accountability and highlight practical steps governments, companies and civil society are taking to support good governance in the renewable energy sector.

The renewable energy sector has a critical role to play in helping countries reduce energy poverty and adopt pathways to a low-carbon future. However, weak governance poses a threat to the sector’s growth by fueling perceptions that the sector is not working in the public interest, deterring investments and increasing the cost of doing business.

A solution lies in reinforcing transparency and accountability, which serve as the foundation for fairer and more competitive markets and for building trust among stakeholders. Good governance can promote better environmental, social and human rights performance and reduce corruption risks. It can also bolster the sector’s capacity to drive sustainable development by promoting energy access, economic growth and a just transition.

Within this context, the EITI has been advancing collective action on good governance. This event, in partnership with UNDP and UNFCCC, will address corruption and integrity risks in the renewable energy sector. Speakers will issue a call to action for transparency and accountability and highlight practical steps governments, companies and civil society are taking to support good governance in the renewable energy sector.
