The Board concluded that the Suriname is not eligible for an extension request and is suspended

Decision on Suriname's suspension

Decision reference
2019-13 / BC-266
Decision basis
2016 EITI Standard, Requirement 8.2 - Reporting deadlines

The Board agreed that Suriname is ineligible for an extension for publishing its first EITI Report and is suspended effective 26.02.2019.

In accordance with the EITI Standard, the suspension will be lifted if the EITI Board is satisfied that the outstanding EITI Report is published within six months of the deadline (i.e. by 24 May 2019). If the outstanding EITI Report is not published by 24 May 2019, the suspension will remain in force until the EITI Board is satisfied that the country has met requirement 4.8 (i.e., published an EITI Report covering data no older than the second to last complete accounting period – e.g. the 2017 EITI Report is published by 31 December 2019). If the suspension is in effect for more than one year the EITI Board will delist Suriname.

Suriname had a deadline of 24 November 2018 to publish its 2016 EITI Report as per Requirement 4.8. On 21 November 2018, Suriname submitted a letter requesting for a six-month extension of the deadline for publishing 2016 report.
