Date: 10 December 2020

Time: 10:00 - 11:30 WAT

Overview:

The EITI Secretariat is organising a contract transparency week (7-11 December 2020) ahead of the entry into force of Requirement 2.4 on publication of contracts from 1 January 2021. The objective is to help countries prepare to implement reforms and activities related to Requirement 2.4.

Several activities are planned during the week including regional trainings, a Transparency matters webinar and a partner roundtable.  As part of that week, the Anglophone Africa team hosted one of the regional webinars. This webinar covered the importance of contract transparency for good governance of the extractive industry, Requirement 2.4 and its interpretation, shared experiences from countries on their journey’s to contract disclosure, overcoming barriers to disclosure and contract use, with the aim that the discussions would feed into countries' plans for contract disclosure in their 2021 workplans.

For more background, please consult the Guidance Note 7 on contract transparency and its checklist, the recent Board decision on the clarifications of the Requirement 2.4 and our website for related publications.

If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact Murjana (mgamawa@eiti.org) and Chiugo (caghaji@eiti.org).
